Applied Catalysts offers several GACC products for chemical processes tailored to chemical applications. GACC products have a high surface area, tunable acidity, high-packing density, and proven performance. Applied Catalysts is known for rapid response, and excellent quality at the volumes required.
Granular Activated Carbon Catalysts (GACC)
Our Process for GACC
Applied Catalysts has an extensive database of known catalytic applications which utilize GACC products. We can help you screen and select the right ACC for your application and scale the catalyst for commercial use.
How Granular Activated Carbon Catalysts Benefit You?
Granular Activated Carbon catalysts can be used for many chemistries. These particulate catalysts are an alternative to ACMC catalysts and are advantaged at high pH (>pH 10).
Granular activated carbon catalysts (GACC) can be manufactured from several GAC support types, or a customer can specify other granular carbon supports that can be used in manufactured catalysts.
Standard products include GAC-Pd, GAC-Ni, GAC-Pt, GAC-Rh and GAC-Ru at various wt% loadings.

Catalytic Processes
Hydrogenation
The hydrogenation process involves the addition of hydrogen to organic substrates. The functional groups being converted in the organic substrates can be olefinic (unsaturated) to aliphatic groups, aromatic compounds to aliphatic compounds, nitro groups to amines, nitrile groups to amines, acids to aldehydes, and aldehydes and ketones to alcohols and ethers. Hydrogenation can also be used to remove sulfur, nitrogen, and chlorine content in molecules.
Industries Served
Pharmaceuticals
Granular activated carbon in the GAC catalyst is crucial to the pharmaceutical industry in manufacturing pharmaceutical products such as antibiotics and steroid hormones. Applied Catalysts solutions help these industries selectively convert functional molecule groups into new production.
Applied Catalysts' GACC are often advantaged for many process chemistries
Here is what we can offer in regards to GACC:
- less prone to by-product formation
- more stable at low and high pH
- carbon properties can impact process selectivity in some cases
- broad range of active metal and promoter options
We are committed to applying world-class catalyst technology for the chemistry of interest using internal and industry standard catalysts – assuring the best available catalysts for each application, whether we produce the catalysts or sourced from world-class vendors.
